The Port of Montreal has released its preliminary report for 2022, and the unaudited results look positive. British Columbia rang in the new year with a delivery fee cap for restaurant owners. A new report from Armstrong & Associates Inc. suggests that the last-mile delivery of big and bulky e-commerce items will be big business for 3PLs through 2025. XCMG delivered 100 hydrogen-fueled trucks to Mengxi Zhenghe Group in China, and USPS is expected to acquire 66,000 electric vehicles by 2028.
Port of Montreal Releases 2022 Preliminary Report
The Port of Montreal has released its preliminary (unaudited) report for 2022. It is reporting a 5.4 percent gain in volumes over the last year with a total of 35.9 million tones of cargo transiting through its facilities in 2022. President and CEO Martin Imbleau responded to the results by saying “The Port of Montreal, your port, is doing fine, as evidenced by the encouraging preliminary results for 2022.”

British Columbia Caps Delivery Fees
In response to delivery, companies charging as high as 30 percent of an order’s value in delivery fees to restaurants during the pandemic. B.C. imposed a temporary cap on delivery fees. With the temporary cap, the province has passed a permanent cap on delivery fees. The new permanent cap limits the fees that delivery companies can charge restaurants to 20 percent of the dollar value of an order.

Report Suggests 3PLs to Gain Traction in Last Mile Delivery
3PL research and consulting firm Armstrong & Associates Inc. and the National Home Delivery Association published a report last week predicting that the last-mile delivery of big and bulky e-commerce items will be big business for 3PLs through 2025. The market gained an 18.2% compounded annual rate from 2017 to 2021. The report suggests it will experience 11.8% annual growth from 2022 through 2025.

Hydrogen-Powered Deliveries Comes to China
XCMG delivered 100 hydrogen-fueled trucks to Mengxi Zhenghe Group in China recently. This is part of a 1,000 hydrogen-fueled truck order signed with Sino-Synergy Hydrogen Energy Technology. The construction company plans to use the trucks to build a mine near Ordos in China. XCMG plans to deliver more than 1,000 hydrogen-fueled trucks to the company by 2025.

USPS Gets Caught Up in EV Fever
USPS announced last week that by 2028 it will acquire 66,000 battery-powered electric vehicles. At least 45,000 of these vehicles will be electric versions of the Postal Service’s next-generation delivery vehicles. The agency plans to have the first vehicles on the streets by the end of 2023.
