Despite easing prices and sourcing diversification beyond China, margins remained pressured, reinforcing that scale, digital execution, and operational discipline now define long-term competitiveness.

Beauty brand Merit raised prices on select items and increased its free shipping threshold due to higher logistics costs, joining Nike and E.l.f. Beauty in pricing adjustments. At the same time, Dick’s Sporting Goods partnered with Team USA athletes ahead of the Winter Olympics, tying brand promotion to charitable donations linked to medal wins.

A survey of more than 120 North American warehouse leaders shows automation alone does not guarantee strong performance, as many facilities remain manual or only partially integrated, and even automated sites struggle when orchestration is fragmented or vendor-controlled. The report argues that sustainable gains require owning an independent orchestration layer that coordinates systems, adapts to change, and separates operational logic from hardware investment to protect flexibility and ROI.

Picking remains one of the most difficult warehouse roles due to physical strain, turnover, and its direct impact on cost and fulfillment speed. Experts recommend improving layout design and selective automation to reduce strain, adopting voice and AI tools to increase productivity, and equipping workers with modern devices while clearly communicating training and advancement paths to improve retention and workforce stability.
